The
Council of Imams in The Gambia led by its Supreme Boss, Imam Rhatib Khan and a
cross section of Gambian Muslim Jamat this morning Thursday August 7th
offered fervent Muslim prayers against the Ebola virus in Sierra Leone at the
Sierra Leone Embassy in Banjul.
Ambassador
Soulayman Daramy on behalf of the President of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai
Kororma said he welcome and deeply appreciated their concerns. He referred to
them as true Muslim, seeking the interest of their neighbors.
“As
a nation we have seek assistance from everyone as we go through this difficult
time in our country. The prayers that you will offer here today will be far
greater than any other thing and with faith I pray Allah will answer it. On
behalf of my Boss President Koroma, I want to express my deepest thanks and
appreciation to President Yahya Jammeh, the government and People of The
Gambia” he said.
Speaking
with one voice, the Council of Imams said they cannot sit idle and watch their
neighbor’s house on fire, noting that the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone, Liberia
and Guinea has reached an alarming rate and have therefore been declared as an
emergency.
“
Due to the fact that Gambia and Sierra Leone did share much in common”
said Imam Ebou Njie “we as Muslim and as
a brother Republic, do hereby today August 7TH 2014 call for divine
intervention against the deadly EBOLA VIRUS in Sierra Leone and even beyond”
Adding
his voice, Alhaji Bai Sainey Secka
(BILAL) said “The people of Sierra Leone are God fearing, therefore EBOLA I say
be still and you shall go no further and be wiped out”
After
the reading of the Koran and other related quaranic incantations, special prayers were offered
for President Ernest Bai Koroma, the nation of Sierra Leone, Ambassador Soulay
Daramy and his Deputy Saidata Sesay and staff of the Embassy.
Among
the Imams present were Imam Rhatib Khan, Imam Ebou Njie, Imam Sey, Imam
Drammeh, Imam Badjan, Imam Baham Jobe, Imam Sillah, Imam Dumbuya, Imam Ceesay
and Imam Bai Jane.
Seminally,
Christian Prayers will be offered on Saturday by various Christian
denominations in The Gambia.
