Deputy Energy Minister I Subscribes to Oath of Office

  By State House Communications Unit

The newly appointed Deputy Minister of Energy I, Distribution and Supply, has subscribed to the oath of office during a well attended swearing-in ceremony held at State House, Freetown.

Congratulating Major (Rtd) Ishmael Sengu Koroma, President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma described the energy sector as very pivotal in the ongoing transformation of the country. He urged the deputy minister to put in place an efficient distribution and supply mechanism for all to benefit from energy supply.

The President noted that energy can only be meaningful to the public when it is distributed to their homes and businesses. “If you generate energy and you cannot distribute it, it becomes difficult,” and implored the new Deputy Minister of Energy I to maintain an efficient level of distribution and supply mechanism.

President Koroma stated that government is not only limiting access to energy to Freetown, but also developing a national grid, and therefore urged Major (Rtd) Sengu Koroma for a quick and efficient process to be established to meet the target of, at least, a thousand megawatts by 2017.

Major (Rtd) Ismael Segun Koroma in his response promised to faithfully discharge his duties as well as respect and uphold the rule of law. He expressed optimism that with the help of Sierra Leoneans, including his colleague ministers, they would meet their target date of 2017.
