Sierra Leone Table Tennis female player Stella Grant is out of the
commonwealth games after losing both matches in the group stage. Stella lost
her first match to 17 year-old Emma Ludlow of Northern Ireland and later lost
to Annie Yang of New Zealand.
The defeat and crashing out of the competition brings Sierra Leone to a
total of five disciplines now out of the games and out of the medal reach for
the 2014 commonwealth games. Stella Grant is the latest competitor to crash out
of the games losing two games in a row. Grant commonwealth games are over but
still have national assignment back home.
“This was a difficult match for me, I played against professional players
who had all the facilities to train and prepared their athletes for
international competitions”. “This is my very first outing to international
competition” Stella said.
She will now join forces with the other losing competitors, relegated to
a mare spectator as the games progress. Stella began playing table tennis in
2011 and became prominent in 2013. Her aim of becoming national champion is yet
to be realized but was able to make it to the 2014 games in Glasgow.
Sierra Leone delegation to the games is yet to clinch a medal with almost
all the competitors crashing out of the competition. The competitors continue
to crash out of the games with very poor performance dropping out of each
contest.
Grant lost game
one 11-9, 11, 11-2, 11-7 and 11-5. Grant earlier lose to New Zealand, Annie
Yang 4-0 after she suffered 11-1, 11-4 and 11-2
