CLAIM THE LIVES OF MANY OF OUR CITIZENS, OUR FRIENDS AND INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS
HAVE SCALED UP THEIR SUPPORT TO SIERRA LEONE WITH A VIEW TO BRINGING THE
EPIDEMIC UNDER CONTROL.

The Technical Assistance came a few weeks
after an appeal was made by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia, Alhaji M.S Kargbo on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone
concerning the control of the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) which continues to
ravage the country.
President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on Monday 13th October
assured the Emergency Hospital delegation of his continued commitment in the
fight against the deadly Ebola virus.
As the fight against Ebola takes center
stage in international media circles, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the
International Rescue Committee, (IRC) Hon. David Wright Miliband on Thursday
9th October paid a courtesy call on President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House,
Freetown.
Since the first
cases of the disease in Sierra Leone in May, over 2500 of our people have been
infected, of which there are a little over 530 survivors.
President Dr
Ernest Bai Koroma on Wednesday 8th October received the Cuban delegation of One
Hundred and Sixty-Five medical (165) staff including doctors and nurses at
State House.
49) Ebola Survivors Cured by Sierra Leonean Medical staff
At a ceremony
organized by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation on Monday 6th October,
President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma officially presided over the discharge of
forty-nine (49) Ebola survivors treated and cured by an all Sierra Leonean
medical staff at the Hastings Treatment Centre.
Sierra Leone just recorded the highest number of
Ebola casualties in a day as the fight to contain and eradicate the deadly Ebola
virus continues. Quite alarming and scary to say the least!
It is
indeed true that the Ebola disease is new not only to Sierra Leone as a country
but also the sub-region and handling it therefore need not only considerable
time but effective collaborative efforts.
A
French expert in tropical diseases, Michel Gonza, has stated in an exclusive
interview with Radio France International that Sierra Leone is in the right
direction in the fight against Ebola taking into consideration the level of
social mobilization, sensitization and the public response associated with the
“Ose to Ose Ebola Tok Campaign” organized some few weeks back.
Sierra
Leone’s Ambassador in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this week paid courtesy calls
on two of Saudi Arabia’s influential men, particularly in the areas of youth,
sports and humanitarian activities.
