19 August 2014, Freetown:
The Parliamentary Press Gallery Executive which was
elected into office on 18 August 2012 to run the affairs of members has
formally come to an end.
President, Elias Bangura, on behalf of the
outgoing executive, thanked members for the confidence reposed in them to run
the affairs of the Gallery, a task which they carried out to the best of their
ability: the successes registered were only possible through the commitment and
cooperation of members, including the Office of the Clerk of Parliament, and
Members of Parliament.
Bangura also thanked all those entities
without whose cooperation and assistance the task would not have been easy –
entities like the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, the Independent
Media Commission, the Anti-Corruption Commission, Audit Service Sierra
Leone, the United Nations Development
Programme, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, among several
others.
However there are still challenges, among
them office space, but the Office of the Clerk and the Leadership of the House
has committed itself towards its provision. It is hoped that very soon, the
acquisition of an office space will be a reality.
Bangura said he is not running again for the
position of president.
“Time for elections for the next executive
will soon be announced,” he said. “And this release is also a notice to all
members who are eligible to come forward and vie for positions. Let’s work
together to make the Gallery grow stronger and stronger. I thank you all,” he
said.
